Rocket
Rocket is a playful, eco-conscious mosquito lamp designed for young children. With a bold, characterful form and sustainability at its core, it stands out from conventional designs on the market.
conducting the market research.
When set with this brief the first step was to identify the geographical locations where the product would be be needed and primarily used by the user. Through further research countries along the equator were identified as mosquito prone areas.
After identifying the geographical location, the next stage was the narrow down the target market to the primary user. The brief set out three scenarios and I decided to target my design for children’s bedrooms.
The final target market was chosen through understanding the availability of the materials within each region. To ensure sustainable resources were used, the material sourcing and manufacturing processes had to be carefully researched. Asia was chosen as the location due to the manufacturing accessibility.
EXPLORING THE DESIGN.
To begin the design ideation, design moodboards for both the form and materials were curated for inspiration. Through this process a sense for the theme of using organic forms and joining geometry was decided. Inspiration from the organic forms and children friendly objects formed the basis of the rocket inspired form. Particular focus was spent on combining both the polymer and wood material and the manufacturable feasibility of it from which the final design was formed.
