Roamer Lux
Roamer Lux is a group project designing an accessible micro caravan for wheelchair users. The focus was on creating a compact, stylish space that prioritizes independence, comfort, and inclusive design.
IDEATION TO CONCEPTION.
As a group we decided to bring inspiration from the VW retro camper. The exterior team explored various forms, keeping in mind the users needs for space but also ensuring we deliver all the essentials for a micro-caravan.
In designing the interior we had to keep in mind accessibility for wheelchair users. As part of the interior team I explored different floor plans before looking into different mechanisms to save space but provide the user’s with all their needs.
After the interview with the CEO of a micro-caravan company we decided to use majority of standard components to ensure all legislation is followed. The chassis team added customisation to the chassis design through handles and feet.
Ensuring a feasible design.
For our final solution we built a mock up of the table with its basic features to test out its mechanism and to ensure that it would be functioning within the space limitation we had. We also did a mock-up of the interior of the caravan to further assist our design refinement. With our life-size prototype we were able to identify issues with our spacing and also finalise our interior layout.
